The Freed-Hardeman University CSD Clinic is dedicated to providing quality care in the assessment and treatment of children and adults with speech, language, voice, cognitive, and fluency disorders. The clinic functions as a vital part of the Communication Sciences and Disorders Program by providing opportunities for clinical training and research. Patients are offered a full range of services and benefit from being treated in a university setting, where professors are at the forefront of their field.
FHU's CSD Program believes in providing dignity to all people - as Jesus did, excellence in Christian service, and building community in West Tennessee. Christian faculty and staff are invested, engaging students in reaching their full potential - both educationally and spiritually. As a result, our students exemplify ethical leadership, critical thinking, and interprofessional collaboration to support top of the license practice.
Specific services include evaluation and management services for disorders related to speech and language. Services are provided by undergraduate students under the direct supervision of certified faculty members. All clinical faculty members are certified by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association and licensed by the Tennessee Board of Communication Disorders and Science
SPEECH AND LANGUAGE ASSESSMENT

Language delay or disorders
Fluency disorders or stuttering
Assessment typically includes comprehensive testing, observation, interview with the client and/or family members, and consultation regarding clinical findings and recommendations. Members of our faculty are able to supervise students in the provision of LSVT Loud, a treatment approach for addressing speech and voice disorders common with Parkinson disease and similar neurological conditions.
SPEECH AND LANGUAGE TREATMENT
Intervention programs vary depending on the nature and severity of the communicative disorder, the client’s age, and individual concerns. Therapy is provided for children and adults and may be scheduled for individual or group sessions (when available). Parents of children in therapy, as well as family members or caregivers of adult clients, receive information throughout the semester regarding the client’s progress and ways to facilitate communication skills outside the clinic. A consultation is scheduled during the final therapy session in each semester to provide recommendations to the clients, parents, and/or caregivers.
