Henderson, Tennessee — (April 25, 2024) — For the third consecutive year, Freed-Hardeman’s analytics teams brought home honors, this time at the Bluegrass DataFest held in late April at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky. In this competition, students had 48 hours to evaluate a complex, real-world dataset and present their findings.

Henderson, Tennessee — (April 25, 2024) — In a highly unusual step, both of Tennessee’s professional organizations for teacher education have chosen their presidents from the same university. Freed-Hardeman university’s dean of the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences and the chair of the Department of Education have taken the reins of the two organizations.

Henderson, Tennessee – (April 24, 2024) – Freed-Hardeman University will offer a new computer engineering program in the fall of 2024, providing students with the opportunity to enter a first cohort for a Bachelor of Science in engineering with a concentration in computer engineering. Students of this cohort will be among the first to take advantage of the new ATPI Center for Computer Science and Digital Innovation, coming in the fall of 2025. The Center is named in honor of Albert and Treva Brown and Philip and Irene Kopel, the parents of John and Rosemary Brown, whose donations made the Center a reality.

Henderson, Tennessee – (April 22, 2024) – Freed-Hardeman University has announced the appointments of Kyle Batte, of Aubrey, Texas, and Jana Rucker, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, as the newest members of the FHU Board of Trustees.

Henderson, Tennessee – (April 19, 2024) – Scott E. Latham, newly appointed chairman of the FHU Board of Trustees, will deliver the commencement address at Freed-Hardeman University’s spring graduation ceremony. The commencement will take place on May 11, 2024, at 10 a.m. in Loyd Auditorium and will mark the conclusion of FHU’s 154th academic year.  

Henderson, Tennessee – (April 17, 2024) – Freed-Hardeman University recently celebrated five longstanding members of its faculty and staff in recognition of their upcoming retirements. Dr. Tom DeBerry, Mrs. Karen Hobbs, Dr. Gary McKnight, Mr. Clarence McNeal and Dr. David Powell, together representing a combined 129 years of service to the university, were honored during a special chapel presentation and reception Wednesday, April 10.

Henderson, Tennessee – (April 16, 2024) – Freed-Hardeman University has announced the eight student finalists who have been nominated for the titles of Mr. and Miss FHU. These young men and women have been chosen by their faculty, staff and fellow students because of their positive influence, involvement, leadership and academic abilities. Nominees will be honored with a reception Thursday, April 25, at 9 a.m., in the Hope Barber Shull Academic Resource Center, and winners will be announced at 10:30 a.m. during a special chapel presentation in Loyd Auditorium.

Henderson, Tennessee — (April 10, 2024) — Professors on Poetry combined the celebration of Black History and Women’s History Month with a discussion of Afrofuturism through poetry, musicians, artists and writers led by professors Neil Segars, Loren Warf and Derrick Spradlin.

Henderson, Tennessee — (April 9, 2024) — Dignitaries and community members joined Freed-Hardeman University faculty, staff and students in honoring the 2024 NAIA National Champions, FHU Men’s Basketball Tuesday, April 2! The Lions brought home the first national title for men’s basketball (joining the 2018 national title held by FHU Women’s Basketball) with their hard fought win against Langston University in the final game in Kansas City, Missouri, March 26, 2024.

Henderson, Tennessee — (April 4, 2024) — The Freed-Hardeman University Board of Trustees has appointed three new officers to lead its governing body: Chairman Scott E. Latham, Vice Chairman Stephen C. Estes and Secretary John D. Dodd.

Henderson, Tennessee – (April 3, 2024) – Campers at Mid-South Youth Camp now have another place to learn, play and grow, thanks to the generous donations of one family. A ribbon cutting for the new Dodd Pavilion took place in early March, welcoming members of the Dodd family, representatives from Freed-Hardeman University and members of the MSYC and Chester County communities.
