A new year and new semester at Freed-Hardeman brings a new face to the faculty in exercise science. Brian Vaughn joins the FHU family this semester with a plethora of experience in physical therapy.

Vaughn began his undergraduate education at University of Florida and Middle Tennessee State University. He received his B.S. in physical therapy from UT Memphis. He has 20 years of experience as a physical therapist at Sports Plus Rehab Centers in outpatient orthopedic setting. He also worked for four years in Kentucky in both outpatient and hospital settings. Vaughn joins the Freed-Hardeman University family as the director of clinical education of the developing physical therapy assistant program and an instructor of kinesiology. He has begun teaching anatomical kinesiology this semester. In his role as director of clinical education, Vaughn will serve a vital role in helping develop and apply for accreditation of the PTA program as well as assigning students to physical therapy sites for their clinicals.

“It truly feels like a family. Everyone has been so welcoming and helpful,” Vaughn remarked about working at Freed-Hardeman.

He is married to Stacy Hays Vaughn, an FHU alumna, and they have lived in Jackson, Tennessee, for the past 20 years. They have two children, Emma, who is 17, and a 13-year-old son named Mason. The Vaughn family worships with the Campbell Street church of Christ in Jackson. When not at Freed-Hardeman, he enjoys coaching youth sports, playing golf, hiking and biking.

The university is preparing to submit an application to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools next year for the PTA program’s candidacy for accreditation.
