September 13-14, 2016
by Dr. Kevin L. Moore, Director of Missions Studies
Near the beginning of each Fall semester FHU hosts Missions Emphasis Days, where two whole days are devoted to highlighting missions across campus. Four reputable missionaries are invited to speak to all the Bible classes, at chapel, and at local congregations in their mid-week assemblies. The aim is to expose the entire student body to the concept of missions and seek to develop more interest and involvement in missionary work.
This year the dates are Tuesday the 13th and Wednesday the 14th of September. Most sessions are held in Ayer’s Auditorium between 8:30am and 3:50pm, with special ladies’ session in GC 201. Our visiting missionaries are Riley and Brittany Hendrix (Miami Hispanic Ministry), Enoch Rinks (Great Cities Missions), Gavin and Lauren Pinkston (SE Asia), and Daniel Gaines (Tanzania). There are also booths in the BK Lobby promoting a variety of mission works, both stateside and abroad.

Riley and Brittany Hendrix are both FHU alumni. Riley received his Bachelor’s degree in Bible and Psychology with an emphasis in Missions, then the MA in NT, along with further training at Great Cities Missions in Addison, TX. Brittany received her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Spanish. She spent eight years in Aruba with her missionary parents, Larry and Carol Waymire, and has participated in various other mission efforts throughout the Caribbean. Riley has been involved in numerous mission efforts throughout the Caribbean, South America, New Zealand, and stateside. He is currently on the Board of Directors for the International School of Theology in Haiti. Riley and Brittany and their sweet daughter Juliette are part of a seven-member mission in Miami, FL, involved in a church-plant work among the Hispanic community.

Enoch Rinks is from Savannah, TN, and became interested and active in missions at an early age. After graduating from FHU with a degree in Finance and a Masters in Ministry, Enoch worked as a youth minister in Lawrenceburg, TN for four years. In 2002, he became part of the Asunción Mission Team and moved to Texas to train with Great Cities Missions before going on to Paraguay in 2003 to plant congregations in Asunción. In 2008 Enoch married Laura Cavellini, who studied at Universidad Católica “Nuestra Señora de la Asunción.” They have been blessed with two precious daughters, Anna and Gracie. Enoch now works with GCM to recruit and train mission teams for the future.

Gavin and Lauren Pinkston are both FHU alumni. Gavin graduated in 2006 with degrees in Biochemisty and Missions. He went on to complete medical school at the University of Tennessee and then finished a Family Medicine residency program. He is passionate about mobilizing people to discover the Kingdom work God is doing in every part of the world. Lauren graduated in 2009 with a degree in Elementary Education. She is currently pursuing a PhD from Clemson University in International Family and Community Studies, researching human trafficking patterns in SE Asia. Lauren is passionate about creating safe jobs for women, and empowering the Church to be the hands of justice for people in need around the world. The Pinkstons have been working in SE Asia for two years, with a commitment of three more years on the field. They have two lovely daughters, Hope and Eliza.

Daniel Gaines, along with his wife Tiffany and their three children (Abby, Josiah, and Levi) have just returned to the USA after spending the past three years doing missionary work with the Andrew Connally School of Preaching in Arusha, Tanzania, training local indigenous evangelists. They have also worked with TZ2000 printing and distributing Bibles in Swahili, the native language of the Tanzania people. Daniel, originally from Pensacola, FL, received his BA in Bible in 2000 and the Master in Ministry degree in 2003, both from FHU. Tiffany is also a graduate of FHU (Elementary Education). Daniel is now preaching for the Lehman Avenue Church of Christ in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
