From the pen of Dr. Sam Jones
“Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he mediates day and night” (Psalm 1:1-2).
Influences make a difference! Paul challenges us in I Corinthians 15:33 to not deceive or fool ourselves to thinking that it doesn’t matter with whom we associate. Make the decision today and every day to associate with those who can make you a better person to the glory of God.
A certain courthouse in Ohio stands in a unique location. Raindrops that fall on the north side of the building go into Lake Ontario and the Gulf of St. Lawrence while those falling on the south side go into the Mississippi River and the Gulf of Mexico. At precisely the point of the peak of the roof, just a gentle puff of wind can determine the destiny of many raindrops. It will make a difference of more than 2,000 miles as to their final destination. Just like the side of the roof determines the destiny of each raindrop, our influences can make a difference in life’s choices and our final destination.
The Psalmist declares, in the above text, people’s influences can also affect their disposition. Those who have godly influences and receive great joy in reflecting often on God’s word are called blessed or happy people. The challenge for today is be a good influence before others. In I Timothy 4:12-16, Paul states those who are a good influence will not only save others but themselves. Be a blessing or a good influence in the lives of others!
Make this Monday a great day – all day!
