Remember the Cross!

Feb. 18, 2016

From the pen of Dr. Sam Jones

When you think no one loves you, remember the cross.

In 2 Corinthians 2:2, Paul positively affirms “For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus and Him crucified.” This passage attests two truths related to the life of Paul. First, it tells why he preached; and secondly, it states the focus of his preaching. The answer to both (why and focus) is the cross. When people come to understand the message of the cross, they should be motivated to want to obey the will of God and do all in their lives to His glory.

Paul preached the cross because it vividly conveys several truths. One of those truths is the amazing love God has for you. When someone tries to convince you that God doesn’t love you – reflect on the message of the cross. The magnitude of God’s love for you and me is seen in the message of the cross. In Romans 8:32, Paul writes these words, “He (God) who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all...” His love for us (you and I) is beyond the ability to fully comprehend.

God delivered or gave His only Son to be crucified to display the depth of His love. Furthermore, Paul writes, “...God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were sinners (enemies), Christ died for us” (Rom. 5:8). Oh what love; oh what wondrous love! Regardless of what happens to you or doesn’t happen to you today, remember you are loved. The message of the cross is a daily reminder of God’s amazing love.

I don’t know about you, but I am going to have a great day – all day. Why? Someone loves me and I know who loves me. Do you know that you are loved? Remember the Cross!
