To God be the Glory

Sep. 11, 2015

From the pen of Dr. Sam Jones

To God be the glory, great things He hath done;

So loved He the world that He gave us His Son,

Who yielded His life an atonement for sin,

And opened the life gate that all may go in.

O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood,

To every believer the promise of God;

The vilest offender who truly believes,

That moment from Jesus a pardon receives.

Great things He hath taught us, great things He hath done,

And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son;

But purer, and higher, and greater will be

Our wonder, our rapture, when Jesus we see.

Refrain

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,

Let the earth hear His voice!

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,

Let the people rejoice!

O come to the Father, through Jesus the Son,

And give Him the glory great things He hath done.

This spiritual hymn was written in 1872 by one of the most prolific writers of hymns and spiritual songs Frances (Fanny) Crosby. This hymn, although it has several false assumptions in it, conveys reasons why each day we should live to His glory. In Stanza 1, the hymn describes the love of God and the supreme sacrifice of God’s Lamb – Jesus. Stanza 2 reminds us of the amazing grace made available to all who will put their trust in Jesus. The final stanza reaffirms the “great things He hath done” for all; thus, He is worthy of our praise and adoration.

The challenge for today is to live “for His glory.” May God bless us with a great weekend; remember the Lord and make plans to worship Him on Sunday.
