From the pen of Dr. Sam Jones
Why do you believe? The world has changed so much in the past 2 or 3 decades. There was a time when a significant percentage of Americans believed in God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, Bible, heaven, hell, resurrection, angels, etc. But increasingly, more Americans are beginning to doubt their beliefs and many others don’t know what they believe. Over and over, God instructed the parents and grandparents of the Israelites to teach their children and grandchildren about Him (cf. Deut. 6:6-16; Jos. 4:4ff). Their failure to comply with God’s instruction led to a generation of Israelites who didn’t know God and His work (cf. Jug. 2:10). Is history about to repeat itself in America? Are we getting close to a generation who will not know God; thus, they will not believe in Him?
Why do you believe in God? Are you able to provide an answer? What would you say to a person who doesn’t believe in God as to why he or she should believe in God? Peter says, “... always be ready to give a defense (answer) to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear” (I Pet. 3:15). What evidence, proof, or explanation can you provide for your belief in God? Your faith is going to be challenged or questioned by others; it’s essential that you equip yourself to be able to provide an answer as to why you believe in God. The Bible was written and provided so believers can know why they believe and unbelievers can come to believe (cf. Jo. 20:30-31). So, I challenge you to equip yourself to be able to give an answer as to why you believe in God.
God exists! He has revealed Himself in His creation of the universe (Psa. 19:1-5; Rom. 1:20); the Word (Psa. 19:7-11); and His creation of human life (Psa. 139:13-16). It makes sense to believe in God and it’s foolish to not believe in God (Psa. 14:1). Have a great day!
