Formative assessments are any assessments used by instructors throughout a class or course to determine how their students are progressing toward predetermined learning outcomes. The goal of formative assessment is to monitor student learning to provide ongoing feedback that can be used by instructors to improve their teaching and by students to improve their learning. Instructors can use the data collected from formative assessments to adjust instruction and/or provide additional support for students who are not on track.
This session will provide further information on what formative assessments are and how to use them to improve student achievement. After a period of instruction, time will be provided for participants to apply what they have learned to a current course. Attendees should bring a course syllabus containing Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) to the session.
Registration is not required but requested for planning purposes.
