HE WENT ABOUT DOING GOOD: The Compassion of Christ in Luke
We are excited to announce the theme for the 86th annual Freed-Hardeman University Lectures (February 6-10, 2022), "He Went About Doing Good: The Compassion of Christ in Luke". The Gospel of Luke uniquely tells the story of Jesus the compassionate Christ as recalled by Peter’s summary of Jesus’ ministry in Acts 10:38. From the birth narrative of Jesus (Luke 1-2) through Luke’s record of His ascension (Luke 24:50-53) readers encounter the Spirit leading Jesus through His public ministry. Jesus’ powerful teaching (particularly in parables), miracles, and encounters with unique individuals, allow readers to see God’s will made evident in a way that invites readers to grow in their compassion towards one another and the marginalized as well. May we remember the compassion of our Savior in Luke as we desire to “do good” to others, especially those of the household of faith (Gal. 6:10).
