About Jeffry Cozzens

Dr. Jeff Cozzens is the Director of Instructional Leadership at Freed-Hardeman University. Dr. Cozzens has had a wide variety of experiences to include presenting at professional conferences and FHU Scholars’ Day.  Dr. Cozzens’ collaboration with his students has resulted in professional journal publications. Over the last year, Dr. Cozzens has presented professional development in collaboration with the Tennessee Education Association and the Tennessee Academy of School Leaders.

Before coming to FHU, Dr. Cozzens was employed by Shelby County Schools for over 30 years.  Prior to retirement from Shelby County Schools in 2012, Dr. Cozzens had served as a Band Director, Assistant Principal, Principal and Central Office Administrator for the school system.  Dr. Cozzens states his most rewarding yet challenging opportunity was opening and serving as Principal of Arlington High School for 8 years from 2004 to 2012.

He considers it an honor and privilege to teach at Freed-Hardeman University. Though he spent over half of his career as a K-12 school administrator, his heart has always been in the classroom working with students. There is nothing he enjoys more than helping to build the leadership capacity of his students. He considers it a unique privilege to help prepare future school leaders from a Christian perspective.
