Mid-South Youth Camps 21

All of the Tennessee Education Lottery Scholarship Program recipients must:

  • Be a Tennessee resident for one year by September 1 of the year starting college. (Dependent children of full-time religious workers, U.S. military or Tennessee National Guard on active duty who maintain Tennessee residency while stationed out of state are eligible)
  • Apply with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online or by paper. Applications must be received by the Federal Processor by Sept. 1 for Fall term and Feb. 1 for Spring term.

HOPE Scholars must:

  • Enroll in a Tennessee college or university accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
  • Enroll within 16 months following graduation from a Tennessee high school or completion of a Tennessee home school or GED program. (Students graduating from some out-of-state schools may be eligible. For more information, call TSAC).

Appeals

Reasons for appeals are as follows:

  • Change in enrollment status
  • Withdrawal from the university
  • Leave of Absence

Converting From Full-Time Enrollment to Part-Time Enrollment

Students enrolled in a full-time status, as of institutionally defined census date(drop/add date), may not convert to part-time status within the same semester and receive a scholarship award for the succeeding semesters unless the student requests and the institution approves the change to part-time status. The student must complete a HOPE Scholarship Appeal Form (for the reasons listed above)and submit it to the Director of Financial Aid. Appeals should be submitted within 30 days of notification of the loss of the HOPE Scholarship. Notification will be made by means of the student’s account on myFHU.

  • Award amounts for part-time enrollment will be pro-rated based on credit hours attempted.
  • Award amounts are subject to reductions based on lottery revenue.

Tennessee HOPE Scholarship

Award amount – $4,500 (Freshmen and Sophomores) and $5,700 (Juniors and Seniors) for 4-year institutions; $2,000 for 2-year institutions (not to exceed the cost of attendance)

  • Entering freshmen (High School class of 2007) must have at least a 21 ACT (980 SAT) on a national test date OR
  • Overall weighted 3.0 grade point average (GPA).
  • Home school graduates – 21 ACT (980 SAT) on a national test date.
  • GED applications – 525 and 21 ACT (980 SAT) on a national test date.

General Assembly Merit Scholarship

Award amount – $1,000 supplement to Tennessee HOPE Scholarship

  • Entering freshmen must have at least a weighted 3.75 GPA and 29 ACT (1280 SAT).
  • Tennessee Home school students must complete 12 college credit hours (at least 4 courses) with a 3.0 GPA at a Tennessee college or university while they are enrolled in the home school program.
  • Students may receive GAMS or ASPIRE, but not both.

Aspire Award

Award amount – $1,500 supplement to Tennessee

  • HOPE Scholarship
  • Meet Tennessee HOPE Scholarship requirements AND
  • Must have parents’ or independent student’s (and spouse’s) adjusted gross income of $36,000 or less on tax form.
  • Students may receive GAMS or ASPIRE, but not both.

Tennessee HOPE Access Grant

Award amount – $2,650 for 4-year institutions; $1,700 for 2-year institutions

  • Entering freshmen must have at least a weighted 2.75 TELS GPA and 18 ACT (860 SAT) on a national test date AND
  • Must have parents’ or independent student’s (and spouse’s) adjusted gross income of $36,000 or less on tax form.
  • Non-renewable – must be eligible for Tennessee HOPE Scholarship by meeting HOPE Scholarship renewal criteria.

Tennessee HOPE Scholarship Renewal Criteria

Eligibility shall be reviewed at the end of the semesters in which the student has attempted a total of 24, 48, 72, 96 semester hours. The HOPE Scholarship is capped at 120 attempted semester hours.

  • Must have a cumulative TELS GPA of 2.75 after 24 attempted semester hours.
  • Must have a cumulative TELS GPA of 3.0 after 48,72, 96, and attempted semester hours.
  • Must be enrolled in fall and spring semesters and maintain satisfactory academic progress and continuous enrollment.
