Finance: Assistant/Associate Professor

Position Summary:

The College of Business at Freed-Hardeman University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position at assistant/associate level in Finance beginning in August 2021.  The College of Business is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) and offers undergraduate Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degrees in accounting, business analytics, finance, management, marketing, and sport administration in addition to a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and MBA in Healthcare Management. The selected applicant will have the opportunity to work with the FirstBank Community Investment Fund, a $1 million student-managed investment fund.


Candidate Qualifications:

  • Active member in good standing of the churches of Christ

  • An earned doctorate in finance or a related business discipline with graduate level major, minor, or concentration in finance from a regionally accredited institution is preferred. ABD applicants who are close to degree completion will be considered.

  • Applicants with a Master’s degree in business, significant professional experience, and/or professional certifications will be considered (professional certification is required for finance faculty positions).

  • Evidence of prior scholarship of discovery, integration, application, and/or teaching and learning is preferred. Commitment to ongoing scholarship is required.

  • A demonstrated history, competence in, and commitment to quality teaching of finance courses at the undergraduate and graduate level is preferred.

  • Experience delivering finance courses in on-line and classroom formats that utilize current technology and pedagogies is preferred.

  • Significant professional experience in finance and related areas of teaching is preferred.

  • Credentials to teach in multiple business disciplines is preferred.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach assigned courses with a total load of 27 hours during the fall and spring semesters

  • Assist with the FirstBank Student Managed Investment Fund, as assigned

  • Maintain at least 10 office hours each week during the contractual period for student appointments

  • Engage in scholarship

  • Engage in service to the department, college, University, and students

  • Serve as academic advisor, as assigned

  • Serve on university committees, as assigned

  • Provide leadership as program coordinator for the finance and financial planning programs.

  • Participate in student recruitment and program promotion, as requested

  • Participate in program, department, college, or faculty meetings, as requested

  • Abide by University policies governing behavior and in fulfillment of position and contract requirements

  • Perform other temporary duties as assigned by the dean or department chair



  • Position rank will be based on degree and experience.

  • Salary will be commensurate with degree, background, and experience.
