Position Summary:

The Behavioral Sciences Department at Freed-Hardeman University and the M.S. Programs in Counseling invite applications for a full-time, tenure track position at the assistant/associate level in School Counseling beginning in August 2020. As a core faculty member in the M.S. Programs in Counseling, the assistant professor or associate professor in this position is responsible for teaching courses within the School Counseling program, engaging in scholarly activity, and conducting committee work as assigned.



  • Active member in good standing of the churches of Christ

  • Applicants should hold an earned doctoral degree in counselor education, preferably from a CACREP-accredited program. Applicants with a related doctoral degree and who have been employed as full-time faculty members in a counseling program at another institution for at least one full academic year prior to July 1, 2013 may also be considered.

  • At least two years’ experience as a school counselor and state licensure in school counseling is required.

  • A demonstrated history, competence in, and commitment to quality teaching courses at the graduate level is preferred.

  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with other faculty members, as well as students.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and electronic communication skills.

  • Evidence of prior scholarship of discovery, integration, application, and/or teaching and learning is preferred. Commitment to ongoing scholarship is required.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teaches courses within the M.S. Programs in Counseling with a total load of up to twenty-seven hours per academic year (approximately 7 graduate courses per year).

  • Participates in student recruitment and promotion.

  • Assists the Director of M.S. Programs in Counseling and other core faculty in the ongoing evaluation of applicants, students, and candidates in the program as a core faculty member of the M.S. Programs in Counseling.

  • Assists the Department Chair, Director of M.S. Programs in Counseling, and other core-faculty in the ongoing evaluation of and improvement of the counseling programs.

  • Evaluates student achievement of curricular objectives/outcomes related to counseling knowledge and practice.

  • Maintains a minimum of 10 office hours per week for student availability.

  • Schedules administrative time for classroom preparation.

  • Engages in scholarly research or other creative achievement activity.

  • Serves on university committees as assigned.

  • Conducts servant leadership in the community.

  • Abides by all University policies governing behavior and in fulfillment of job requirements.

  • Performs temporary duties as assigned to maintain operations and services.



  • Position rank will be based on degree and experience.

  • Salary will be commensurate with degree, background, and experience.
