Position Summary:
This is the second level in the Dining Service worker series involving food preparation and/or food serving. Under general supervision, the employee takes full responsibility for a specific component or components of food services. May deliver supplies/food in service vehicle as required. The Dining Service Specialist is responsible for performing a variety of tasks in the preparation and serving of food in large quantities. Essential functions and responsibilities of the position may vary based on Lion’s Pride Dining Services’ requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties as assigned):
- Be punctual and able to observe regular and consistent attendance
- Contribute to a positive team environment
- Proficiently uses a variety of kitchen equipment and utensils in preparation of baked goods, main dishes, soups, pasta, meats, fruits and vegetables, desserts, sandwiches and other items.
- Prepare and cook specified items related to area of assignment (i.e. grill, sandwich, pasta, or salad station). 3
- Set up a service area and stock with appropriate amounts of food; provide food service to faculty, staff, students and the general campus community.
- Clean and close assigned areas of food service as needed.
- Demonstrate food preparation and service techniques to student assistants.
- Ensure that both service and leftover food are stored in safe and sanitary condition.
- Maintain service and related areas in a clean and orderly condition.
- Provide support in all areas of food service.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Operates a cash register as required, understands cash handling policy and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with University and Dining Service standards and inventory and cash control procedures.
- Practice all safety and sanitation requirements in food preparation and service areas to maintain a clean, healthy, and attractive environment.
Requirements:
- High School diploma, GED or equivalent.
- One to two years of experience in food service preferred
- Possession of valid Tennessee driver’s license
