Refuse Collector and Hauler

Effective Date –As soon as possible. A six-month probationary period is in effect for all non-exempt employees.

 

Position Summary:

Under close supervision, position is responsible for performing s variety of refuse

collection and the hauling and disposing of refuse in landfill; serves as emergency essential personnel as directed. 

 

Essential Functions (other duties as assigned):

 

  1. Competently adhere to a scheduled and authorized modified route as required

  2. Maintains communication and coordinates with Facilities managers

  3. Conducts daily truck and equipment safety and maintenance checks

  4. Strictly adheres to University’s equipment and personnel safety

  5. Operate all equipment in a safe & efficient way complying to all relevant policies and procedures

  6. Collect trash on daily route

  7. Ability to carry refuse out by hand

  8. Report unusual sanitation problems to Facilities Management

  9. Notifies Facilities Managers of any incidents, accidents, injuries or property damage 

  10. Knowledge of – traffic laws involved in equipment operations

  11. May serve as a member of the emergency essential personnel staff in the Facilities Services division and be required to report to work during a closing to assist in carrying out the services of the university.

  12. CDL license preferred

 

Requirements:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess valid Tennessee driver’s license. Must be willing to work flexible hours.
