The Freed-Hardeman University College of Business has continued its investment in career services for students by expanding the Launch Virtual Career Center with a remodeled Launch Virtual Studio and adding Launchpad Coworking Spaces. These expanded areas are in the Brown-Kopel Business Center.

The Launch Virtual Career Center was established in 2019 in response to the need for ongoing career development, networking and virtual vocational communications. It unites all career services and spaces and allows current and former business students to make connections with potential employers.

The remodeled Launch Virtual Studio, located on Brown-Kopel Business Center’s second floor, is a physical space for students to participate in online interviews and meet other career needs. The area is designed to provide students with a professional setting with studio lighting and Wi-Fi to give them confidence when making first impressions with employers. For the past few years, the FHU College of Business has employed Handshake (joinhandshake.com) to establish and strengthen connections between students and employers; this online career management system is often used to arrange online interviews.

Located on Brown-Kopel Business Center’s third floor, the new Launchpad Coworking Spaces provide important dedicated office space for business students who are participating in remote internships. Providing a place to conduct business professionally, these coworking spaces are available at no cost for students. Students can reserve them for any amount of time they need — one session, multiple sessions or an entire semester.

“This is a great opportunity to support our students, many of whom are going to school full-time and doing internships virtually,” FHU College of Business Dean Matt Vega said. “We recognize that internships can open many doors for business students who seek to make their future careers a priority.”

“Since I am doing an online internship, I need a place to work quietly without interruption,” Will Rivers, FHU finance student and spring intern for Vector Wealth Strategies, LLC, said. “It’s great to have a nice, secluded place with a professional setting to get my work done.”

Internships are fundamental to many students’ professional development and career readiness strategies. FHU alumni and friends are invited to help students maximize their potential by providing internships and partnering with the Launch Career Center. The center facilitates in-person career networking events, including the Launch Career Expo March 14, 2023. Individuals may contact cwalker@fhu.edu for more information.
