FHU Students Arrive Aug. 19 for Welcome Home

Henderson, Tennessee - Aug 15, 2017

Freed-Hardeman University students will be “welcomed home” Saturday, Aug. 19, when residence halls open for new students. However, campus leaders and athletes participating in fall sports have already arrived.

In addition to having a cadre of returning students, faculty and staff to help them move into their home-away-from-home, new students will have the opportunity to learn about campus services and organizations at FHU 101 in Brewer Sports Center from 10:00am until 2:00pm. A free cookout for them and their parents will be served between 11:00am and 1:00pm on Bader Green. In addition, Arctic Blast Shaved Ice will be available for purchase and DJ’s Concessions will offer an assortment of fair food, including funnel cake and fried Oreos. It’s all a part of the university’s annual “Welcome Home.”

Local businesses and organizations are invited to have displays regarding their wares or services at West Tennessee 101. Life Flight of Jackson, Tennessee, and the Hazardous Devices Squad (“Bomb Unit”) from the Jackson Police Department will be on hand. Others interested in having a booth should contact Donna Steele at 731-989-6001.

New students will begin Interface, a period of orientation including informational sessions and recreational opportunities, Saturday evening. Registration for fall classes for new students who have not completed this process will be Monday, Aug. 21.

Residence halls open for continuing students Aug. 20 and those who have not completed their registration will be able to do so Tuesday, Aug. 22. Tolling of the Bell ceremonies will begin at 10:30am, Aug. 23 in Loyd Auditorium. (See additional story.) Classes also start that day.
