FHU to Offer Degree Emphasizing Business Analytics

Henderson, Tennessee - May 01, 2018

The Freed-Hardeman University College of Business will offer a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in business analytics Fall 2018, according to Jason Brashier, dean of the FHU College of Business.

Business analytics is a rapidly growing field with approximately 2.7 million job opportunities open for U.S. data analysts by 2020, a recent PricewaterhouseCoopers report said. Payscale.com has reported the median entry-level salary for a data analyst is $55,678.

Developed jointly by the College of Business and the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, the program requires 39 credit hours of business courses and 24 hours of business analytics and computer science courses. “Students will receive a robust business foundation with a focused emphasis on the management, analysis and application of data in a business context,” Brashier said.

“Graduates with a business analytics degree are ideal for a growing set of careers with responsibilities for managing and analyzing data,” Brashier said. “They will be able to meet business problems by identifying the data needed to answer the question, collecting and analyzing the data and communicating the results to decision-makers.” Expected job opportunities are many and varied, including employment as data scientists, logistics managers, financial analysts, data mining analysts, marketing managers and fraud analysts.

The College of Business currently offers Bachelor of Business Administration, Master of Business Administration and dual B.B.A./M.B.A. degrees in accounting, finance, management or marketing. The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) accredits the programs. Additional information about the new business analytics program, including a four-year plan of study, is available at fhu.edu/business.
