FHU to Offer Major in Sport Administration

Henderson, Tennessee - Mar 25, 2020

Freed-Hardeman University plans to begin offering a major in sport administration this fall, pending approval by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. Housed in the College of Business, the Bachelor of Business Administration degree will offer students a robust business foundation focused on management, leadership skills and real-world applications in the sports industry.

Students will complete 39 hours of core business courses and 24 hours of major courses in sport administration, communication, kinesiology and business electives. They will gain hands-on experience through a required internship working with FHU’s 14 intercollegiate athletic programs. They will also tour various professional sporting facilities to learn about their operation. Vincent Meninno, program coordinator, has 11 years of experience in college athletics, ranging from NAIA to NCAA Division I.

Careers in the sport industry are growing rapidly as new college sports emerge, additional leagues are created and coverage of existing leagues expands. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects growth of 8 percent by 2028, faster than the average for all occupations. Careers in the sport industry include: athletic director, general manager, facility/operations manager, sports agent, ticket manager, marketing research director, public relations director, sports information/communication director, scouting and broadcasting, among others.

Additional information may be obtained by contacting Meninno at or 731-989-6091.
