Lewis County Resident Added to Mid-South Youth Camp Board

Mylie McKissack, an instructional coach in the Lewis County school system, has been added to the board of Mid-South Youth Camp in Henderson, Tennessee.

 McKissack is an alumna of Freed-Hardeman University which owns and operates the camp. She graduated from FHU in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science in education. She also holds a Master of Education from Tennessee State University and a Specialist of Education from Middle Tennessee State University. She has worked in the Lewis County schools for 32 years, 28 as a kindergarten teacher and four as an instructional coach.

“Mid-South Youth Camp has been a part of my life since I was 10 years old,” McKissack said. “It helped shape me into the person I am today. It is one of my favorite places to be.” Her daughters, Nychelle and Morgan, also attended Mid-South and FHU.

McKissack is a member of the Lomax Church of Christ where she participates in Food for Friends.

MSYC is located on 77 acres near Henderson. It has been in operation since the 1960’s. Recently the camp broke ground for an 8,000 square foot dining hall. It will contain a commercial kitchen, dining space for 312, director’s office, nurse’s station, conference room for counselors, camp store, restrooms and laundry room.
