Mid-South Youth Camp to Host Fishing Rodeo Saturday

Mid-South Youth Camp will host its 22nd Annual Youth Fishing Rodeo Saturday, May 5, 2018, for youngsters aged 5 to 16. Registration for the rodeo will be at Mid-South from 8:00am - 8:45am. Competition fishing will start at 9:00am and conclude at 1:00pm. The $15 entry fee per child is payable by cash or check at registration.

All competitors are responsible for their own rods and reels; however, no more than two rods may be used. R&J Feed Supply from Jackson will be on hand to sell tackle, lures and live bait. Concessions will be available all day; no coolers with food will be permitted. Stringers, which must be used for catches and at weigh-in, will be given to competitors at registration.

Prizes will be awarded in three age groups: 5-8, 9-12 and 13-16. For each division’s first place winner there will be a $150 prize; for second place, a $125 prize; and for third place, a $100 prize. In addition, $50 will be awarded to the fisherman who catches the largest fish overall. There are no limitations on size or species.

Freed-Hardeman University has operated Mid-South Youth Camp, located on Highway 45 near Henderson, since the summer of 1957. The camp is open for eight weeks each summer and is available for retreats year-round.
