During a joint press conference at the Jackson Chamber Boardroom in Jackson, Tennessee, the presidents of Bethel University, Freed-Hardeman University and Martin Methodist College announced their schools’ transfers to the Mid-South Conference of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Teams will first compete in their new conference in the 2020-21 academic year.

All available space for Freed-Hardeman University’s popular Horizons program is filled and registration is closed for this year. Now in its 39th year, Horizons is set for July 7-12, when almost 1,000 junior high and high school students are expected to be on campus.

A former member of the Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lion soccer team has received a top character award from the American Midwest Conference. Avis Van Kampen, a 2019 graduate from Atoka, Tennessee, has been selected as a finalist for the NAIA's Dr. LeRoy Walker Character Award.

The Freed-Hardeman University Office of Alumni Engagement will host its annual Golden Year Reunion June 19-21 on FHU’s campus, Chris Ramey, director, said. The class of 1969 will be especially honored; however, any alumni from previous years are encouraged to attend also.

Dr. Phil Oldham, president of Tennessee Tech University, delivered the commencement address Saturday, May 18, at Freed-Hardeman University. He grew up in Henderson as a part of the FHU family and is an alumnus of Freed-Hardeman and a former member of the university’s Board of Trustees.

Dr. C.J. Vires, FHU vice president for academics and provost, presented the Faculty Scholarship-Leadership Medal to Isabel Harris at commencement exercises May 18. She graduated summa cum laude, earning a Bachelor of Science in mathematics. Multiple faculty members described her as “one of the finest students they have had the opportunity to teach,” Vires said

Isabel Harris, a senior mathematics major at Freed-Hardeman University, has been awarded an H.Y. Benedict Fellowship by the national college honor society Alpha Chi. Harris will use the fellowship this fall to pursue a doctorate in mathematics at Auburn University.
