A new year and new semester at Freed-Hardeman brings a new face to the faculty in exercise science. Brian Vaughn joins the FHU family this semester with a plethora of experience in physical therapy.
Former United States Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales will speak Thursday, March 1, 2018, at the American Values Forum in the Performance Hall of the Renaissance Center in Dickson. The event is designed to raise scholarship funds for students finishing their college degrees at Freed-Hardeman University/Dickson.
Freed-Hardeman University will again be represented at an honors chorale program at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Students Parker Pearce, Greenfield, Missouri; Jacob Mosley, Rogers, Arkansas; Jacob Dowdy, Gadsden, Alabama; and Summer England, Hebron, Kentucky, have been selected to be part of the Young Adults Honors Choir to perform at Carnegie Hall Feb. 4. The performance, which will be held in the Isaac Stern Auditorium/Ronald O. Perelman Stage, will be the culmination of several days of intense rehearsals with Dr. Eph Ehly, conductor.
Laquita Thomson, associate professor of fine arts at Freed-Hardeman University, has been selected to make a presentation at the Ninth Henry D. Green Symposium for the Decorative Arts. The conference theme, Belonging: Georgia and Region in the National Fabric, will be explored Feb. 1-3, 2018, at the Classic Center in Athens, Georgia.
The 82nd Annual Bible Lectureship at Freed-Hardeman University, is set for Feb. 4-8, 2018. More than 150 speakers will address the theme, “Entrusted with the Faith: Multigenerational Mission in Timothy and Titus.”
Dr. E. Claude Gardner, 13th president of Freed-Hardeman University, died Sunday afternoon, Dec. 31, 2017, in Jackson, Tennessee. He would have celebrated his 93rd birthday Jan. 16, 2018.
Freed-Hardeman University’s fall commencement ceremony will be in Loyd Auditorium, Friday, Dec. 15, at 6:00pm. More than 100 students are expected to receive diplomas.

The 2017 benefit dinner at Freed-Hardeman University Friday night, Dec. 1, 2017, generated more than $1.3 million for scholarships at FHU. The event featured Tim Tebow, Heisman trophy winner, professional football player and football analyst for the SEC network. This marked the 18th consecutive year the FHU benefit has raised more than $1 million.
Limited seating remains available for Freed-Hardeman University’s Annual Benefit Dinner set for Friday night, Dec. 1, 2017, according to Dave Clouse, FHU vice president for community engagement. He, however, still fully expects the event to reach its $1.5 million goal for scholarships at FHU.
The Tennessee Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (TAHPERD) honored Dr. Tony Kirk, Freed-Hardeman University professor emeritus in the Department of Biological, Physical and Human Sciences, at its 2017 convention in Murfreesboro. The association presented him with the Life Fellow Award.
