A new year and new semester at Freed-Hardeman brings a new face to the faculty in exercise science. Brian Vaughn joins the FHU family this semester with a plethora of experience in physical therapy.
Brandon Gosselin, May 2017 baccalaureate honors graduate in business, spent his summer interning in the White House as an agency liaison. His duties included reading, sorting and coding incoming mail, reviewing responses from federal agencies and working the White House comment line.
Dr. Milton and Mrs. Laurel Sewell have established a fund to assist the choral program at Freed-Hardeman University. The Laurel Shannon Sewell Choral Fund has been established in memory of her parents, Paul and Dalphine Shannon.
Freed-Hardeman University crowned its 2017 Homecoming Queen and King Saturday, Nov. 11, at half-time of the Lady Lion basketball game. Sutherland Shrader, a senior from Columbia, Tennessee, and Richard Turner, a senior from Oak Ridge, Tennessee, received the honors.
The work of a Freed-Hardeman University art professor is currently being shown at an Atlanta printmaking exhibit. Laquita Thomson’s “Trumpet Vine,” a reduction linocut, is on display at the Abernathy Arts Center. The show, “Pressing Matters VIII,” opened Nov. 4 and will hang until Dec. 8.
Freed-Hardeman University will crown its 2017 Homecoming Queen and King, Saturday, Nov. 11, at half-time of the women’s basketball game. Candidates for the honor, selected from the senior class, and attending royalty from the other classes were introduced to the student body last week.
Freed-Hardeman University will observe Veterans Day Saturday, Nov. 11, with a performance by Mobility Brass Quintet, an ensemble within the United States Air Force Band of Mid-America, and an address by Major General Paul Johnson (retired). The program will begin at 10:15 a.m. in Heritage Commons on the FHU campus.
Freed Hardeman University’s annual Homecoming festivities will begin Nov. 2 and close Nov. 11 with competitions between social clubs, class reunions, a Homecoming 5k, tailgating, basketball games and a silent auction and other events sponsored by the FHU Associates.
Surrounded by a host of students, family, friends and the expanded Freed-Hardeman University family, David R. Shannon was officially inaugurated as the 16th president of FHU Thursday, October 19, 2017.
Thirty-two Freed-Hardeman University students were inducted into Alpha Chi National Honor Scholarship Society Monday, Oct. 15, 2017. Membership is by invitation only to juniors and seniors who have a minimum grade point average of 3.75 on at least 80 credit hours.
Fall 2017 enrollment at Freed-Hardeman University grew by 66 students with the total head count at all locations standing at 1,972, a 3.5 percent increase over 2016, according to university officials. Undergraduate enrollment was 1,471 students, while graduate students totaled 501.
