Staff Receives Training on Prevention of Identity Theft

Henderson, Tenn. - Jun 25, 2015

The Freed-Hardeman University financial aid and admissions staff received training June 24 to help them better recognize identity theft. The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security/Tennessee Highway Patrol Criminal Investigation Division provided the training.

Regional advisor Joey Hudgins presented the training session. He offered information to make the staff more alert for individuals who might use false or stolen identity to enroll at the university to obtain grant money from the federal government.

The FHU Department of Safety and Security initiated the training for staff members who deal with applications for admission. “We want them to be able to recognize fraudulent activity,” Rodney Weaver, director of campus safety and security, said.

“The information was invaluable at a personal level, but it also served as a reminder of how we need to coach students about the issue of identity theft,” Ginger Young, director of FHU’s Academic Success Center, said.
