Giving Compassionate Care: Brooklyn Polk

Alumni // August 23, 2019

A member of the first nursing cohort at FHU/Dickson, alumna Brooklyn Polk works in the emergency department of TriStar Horizon Medical Center in Dickson. “I absolutely love my job,” she commented. “I love the excitement and fast pace of the workflow.”

Polk said compassion and education are the most important elements of her work. “Patients who come into the emergency department are at their worst. They are in pain, severely injured or panicking for either their own sake or the sake of their loved ones. My job is to develop trust and rapport with them in a matter of minutes,” she explained.

She discussed the ways that her education at FHU/Dickson prepared her to serve emergency patients, as she said, “The course work is challenging and competitive, so I felt well prepared for my career. At the same time, the culture at Dickson is impossible to beat!

I had a wonderful group of faculty members who genuinely wanted me to succeed.”

“I am proud to be a graduate of FHU/Dickson, an active alumna of the first nursing cohort and to have earned the title Brooklyn Polk, RN, BSN,” she concluded.
