The following steps will guide you through the process of testing your computer for the optimal configuration for using Blackboard Learn at FHU.

1. Pop-ups

Click this link and a pop-up window should open.

Did a new window open?

Yes, allowing pop-up windows is necessary for Blackboard Learn to function properly.

You may need to turn off your pop-up blocker or allow pop-ups in your browser's settings.

If you have a toolbar installed on your browser from a third-party (Google, Yahoo!, AOL, etc.), it may also be blocking the pop-up. Please turn this off.

2. Java Runtime Environment (JRE)

Does the message below indicate that you have Java installed?

The Java Runtime Environment is installed on this computer.

It appears that your computer does not have Java installed. You will need to download the latest version of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE).

3. Flash

Can you see and hear the video file below?

It appears that this computer has a current version of Flash installed.

If you could see the video, but not hear anything, you might try turning up the volume on your speakers or making sure they are not muted. You may also want to check to ensure that your speakers are properly connected to your computer. Once you check these items, retry this step again.

If you did not see the video, you will need to install Flash. You can click here to download the latest version of Flash. Once you have installed Flash, if you continue to have issues, you might want to try and uninstall Flash and then reinstall it.

4. QuickTime Player

Open this QuickTime file. If you are given the option of opening or saving the file, choose 'Open'. If a new window opens, play the QuickTime file and then close the window to return to this checklist.

Did the QuickTime file work for you?

It appears that this computer has a recent version of QuickTime Player.

You will need to install QuickTime Player on this computer. Download QuickTime Player, complete the installation process and recheck this item.

5. Real Media Player

Open this Real Media audio file. If you are given the option of opening or saving the file, choose 'Open'. If a new window opens, play the Real Media file and then close the window to return to this checklist.

Were you able to listen to the Real Media audio file?

It appears that this computer has Real Media Player installed.

You will need to install Real Media Player on this computer (or update your current version). Download the latest version here.

6. Adobe Reader

Open this PDF document. If you are given the option of opening or saving the file, choose 'Open'. If a new window opens, view the file, then close the window to return to this checklist.
